Session Report

This will be a shorter session report, this session was one of those "I have a meme and a dream" sessions.

Steve Oedekerk took charger as the caller and convinced the party to travel with him to the "Monastery of the Purple." Steve is looking for a monk to train him and has heard rumors the monks there will train him if he can find a relic that was stolen from their master -- Forgiveness.

The party starts in Chestertonshire and plans to travel north to look for this monastery. They hear their is a mountain trail about a day and a half's journey north and figure to search there for the monastery. They travel the first part of their journey without running into any encounters and they plan to set up camp.

The party has been carving marks into trees to help them not get lost. I explain to them this doesn't really make a lot of sense because finding one tree with a notch among hundreds in an area isn't a realistic use of time if you are lost.

Steve wants to climb a tree to get a better lay of the land. I ask him how tall of a tree he is looking for to climb, initially he only wants to climb a 10 foot tree, but again, that doesn't make too much sense because he wouldn't be able to see over the surrounding trees to get a view. So he settles on a 40 foot tree.

Welp, you know what they say -- "10 feet can kill a man."

Oedekerk fails one of his climbing checks and falls. He is knocked unconscious. The party takes him back to Chestertonshire to rest while they plan their next outing.

Ligmis Strider wants to hunt for beaver. He goes to a local tavern to inquire. While there, he meets Gumbo (a replacement character for Oedekerk), a fighter with more brawns than brains but he isn't really that strong either. At the tavern they hear rumors of gravediggers cursing the lands, bandits roaming the wilderness and northern pass, and a large spider infestation in mountain caves.

The party travels back to the north. Again, no encounters. They set up their campsite for the night and divide the watches.

During the first watch the party gets surprised by a group of eleven large spiders. The battle was tough. Ligmis was bitten, and poisoned by a spider. He was able to fight it off, and kill it along with another spider, but he succumbed to his wounds in a few turns. It was a fortune that only Ligmis died in battle. While searching the spider lair they encamped on-top of, the party found someone unconscious and spun-up in spider's web. They freed him, and slapped him awake.

His name was Bargis Pringle.

The party quickly packed up, and fled through the night back to Chestertonshire.
