Session 19: Call Me A Ground Nigga

Session Report

Day 1 – April 3

The party spends the day hiring mercenaries and hirelings from Wirmiry, the local town where they made camp. They hire a pikeman named Pike Lee and two spetum warriors. They also purchase oil flasks, shields, rope, and darts.

Day 2 – April 4

The party travels back to the local ruins, hoping to recover items for Mr. Crank. They arrive at night and decide to wait until morning before entering. They set up camp, leaving Jimmy John and Hans to guard the cart.

In the middle of the night, they spot eight kenku. Three go invisible, while the other five hold a tense standoff with the party. The standoff lasts just long enough for the invisible kenku to rob the camp. The party mostly loses rations but decides to press forward despite the setback.

Day 3 – April 5

In the morning, the party debates whether to chase the kenku or explore the ruins. The ruins win. Inside, they startle two bats—an easy encounter.

They continue through the ruins, following their poorly drawn maps. They move slowly and carefully, avoiding several random encounters, and notice holes in the ceiling. The party insists they are “ground people, not ceiling people.”

Deeper inside, they reach the goblin ruins and discover an old storage room. Most of the boxes have been broken into or chewed by rats, but a few remain intact. They recover lantern oil, rope, torches, and a ladder. In a hidden corridor, they find urns containing 1,000 silver and 100 platinum. They split the treasure and continue.

A secret passage leads them to a room where zombie kobolds march in procession around a demonic statue with glowing red eyes. The fight is deadly—Spetum 2 is killed, and Spetum 4 is ordered to carry the body back to the cart. The party uses the rope they just acquired to topple the statue, Saddam Hussein–style, and pries the glowing eyes free, discovering they are rubies.

Moving on, Big Pimpin’ fails to detect a trap and falls into a pit, nearly dying. He drops to –8 HP before the party stabilizes him. Toby McSquire insists on touching him, even though he already used his Lay on Hands. Weird guy.

The party can go no further with Big Pimpin’ down, so they escort him out of the ruins. On the way, they fail an encounter check. Rounding a corner, they find the corpses of Spetum 2 and Spetum 4 at the feet of seven duergar.

Against seemingly impossible odds, the party kills six of the duergar. The last one flees. They safely exit the ruins, load their unconscious companions into the cart, and return to Wirmiry.

Day 4 – April 6

Back in Wirmiry, the party finds someone capable of treating Big Pimpin’s wounds. They rest in and around town until they are healed.

Total XP 3952 for combined monsters and sold gems.
